Kindheit
Vanessa Anne Hudgens wurde in Salinas, Kalifornien geboren und wuchs in San Diego auf. Ihre jüngere Schwester Stella ist ebenfalls Schauspielerin. Ihr Vater, Greg Hudgens, hat irische und indianische Vorfahren und ihre Mutter, Gina Guangco, ist eine Filipina mit chinesischer und spanischer Abstammung. All ihre Großeltern waren während der Swing-Ära in Big Bands aktiv. Bereits im Alter von acht Jahren spielte Hudgens in vielen lokalen Musicals wie Evita, Carousel, Der Zauberer von Oz, The King and I, The Music Man und Aschenputtel mit. Nach einem längeren Aufenthalt in London gelang es Hudgens sich erfolgreich für einen Werbefilm zu bewerben, weswegen sie mit ihrer Familie nach Los Angeles zog, wo sie noch heute lebt.

Am 6. September 2007 tauchten private Nacktfotos von Hudgens im Internet auf. Disney hielt dennoch für High School Musical 3 an ihr fest.[5]
2008 zählte Hudgens laut dem amerikanischen Forbes Magazine zu den am besten verdienenden Stars unter 21 in Hollywood. Zwischen Juni 2007 und Juni 2008 erhielt sie Gagen in Höhe von 3,2 Mio. US-Dollar und rangierte hinter Daniel Radcliffe, Miley Cyrus, Mary-Kate und Ashley Olsen, den Jonas Brothers, Zac Efron, Ashley Tisdale, Emma Watson, Hilary Duff und Rupert Grint auf Platz zehn.[6].
